Our Privacy Commitment
At Greater Eastern Credit Union, your privacy is top priority. We value the trust you place in GECU and we want to return that trust by protecting your privacy. We are required by law to give you a privacy notice and have created this notice to help you understand what information we gather about you and how we use and safeguard your personal information.
“Nonpublic personal information” is information about you that is generally not publicly available and that we obtain in connection with providing a financial product or service to you. In providing financial services to you, it is necessary to collect “nonpublic personal information” about you from the following sources: (1) Information we receive from you on applications and other forms; including identifying information such as address, telephone number, social security number, credit information such as income, assets and employment. (2) Information about your transactions with us and/or others, such as account balance and payment history. (3) Consumer reporting agencies, such as your credit worthiness and credit history.
We may disclose all of the information that we collect, as described above to the following parties: Financial service providers, such as our data processor, check printers, our credit card service companies and member insurance services. We may disclose all the information we collect, as described above, to companies that perform marketing services on our behalf or to other financial institutions with whom we have joint marketing agreements. We are also permitted by law to share any information about your transactions or experiences with us under the Fair Credit Reporting Act Disclosure. We may also disclose information about you to anyone, except as permitted by law. If you decide to terminate your membership with us or become an inactive member, we will not share information we have collected about you as described above, except as maybe permitted by law.
How we protect your information:
To protect our members’ privacy, we only work with companies that agree to maintain strong confidentiality protections and limit the use of information we provide. We do not permit these companies to sell the information to other third parties.
Our employees are educated about the importance of safeguarding your information and preventing unauthorized access, disclosure and use of that information. We restrict access to information about you to those employees who need to know that information to provide products or services to you. We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations to guard your information. Our practice of safeguarding information insures confidentiality and trust in us, as your financial services provider.
